Because we know symptoms can often be misleading…
On your first visit we will take a thorough history of your problem to help isolate the root causes. We need to determine what stressers your body has been under. We will of course ask you what your symptoms are and rule out a but many of clinic members soon learn that the pain in their back originally came from their neck or their hip; or maybe that it hurts on the left but the issue is on the right.
So if we can’t rely purely on symptoms, how can we determine the source of your problem?
This is the basis of what makes chiropractic unique and different to medicine and this is what we would like to share with you in the following pages. Chiropractic focuses on the spine, as well as extremities, and how vertebral and extremity joint health affects the nervous system and the overall functioning of the body.
What are vertebral subluxations?
In simple terms (as we don’t want to bore you), a vertebral subluxation is when one or more of your vertebrae move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from between each of the bones in your spine.
How does this affect you? Your nervous system controls and coordinates all the functions of your body. If you interfere with the signals traveling over nerves, parts of your body will not get the proper nerve messages and will not be able to function at 100% of their innate abilities. In other words, some part of your body will not be working properly.
How can these misalignments or subluxations be detected?
A thorough chiropractic examination will include:

Observation of your movements and posture. We also use technology to measure your posture more accurately in terms of degrees and centimeters. Your posture gives clues to the type of problem and location of stress on your spine.

Palpation of your spine and joints. Palpation is ‘feeling’ with our hands the position, and quality of movement of your joints, the skin texture and muscle tone are also important.

Neurological examination includes checking your nerve reflexes, muscle strength testing (kinesiology), skin sensation and balance. This will help to isolate the level of your problem.

Myovision is a computerized scanner that detects muscular tension or weakness resulting from spinal subluxations.

Orthopedic examination may also be used to stress the joints, muscles and nerves and determine which structures are causing the symptom. This is usually to confirm what suspect and to be able to monitor your improvement.
How do chiropractors improve these subluxations if they find them?
Quiroprácticos calificados generalmente manipulan la columna vertebral ó las articulaciones usando movimientos específicos y rápidos, aunque muy suaves y seguros llamados “ajustes quiroprácticos”.
Qualified chiropractors will usually manipulate the spine or joints using specific and fast, yet very gentle and safe, ‘chiropractic adjustments’. This will often produce (via the nerves) an instance relaxation of the muscles surounding the joints, ‘re-setting’ them, improving their function and in turn will often reduce some of stress on the nerves.
At Family Chiropractic Queretaro we use as many as 6 different types of adjustment depending on the type of person and region of the spine. In some cases the person being adjusted may receive a few techniques in a single visit.
